I’ve always loved reading, and these days, I’m all about the inspirational books – books that encourage you, push you to be a better person, and help you reach your goals! So with the new year upon us, I thought this would be a perfect time to share my favourite inspirational books with you! We’re all getting settled into 2017, establishing our goals, and we could use a little positive reinforcement along the way!
The authors of these books are all amazing, successful, and powerful women. While reading their words you’re left awe-struck, but like you just had a conversation with your closest friend. It’s as if they are speaking directly to you through the pages of their books. Every time you put the books down, you feel ready to take on the world! And who doesn’t want that?! Each book is also filled with practical tips and tools to apply in your own life, helping you make your dreams a reality! 🙂
The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, Rising Strong – Brené Brown
I adore Brené Brown! If you haven’t had the chance to see her TED talk on the Power of Vulnerability or read her books yet, drop everything. Go do that right now. Brené is the queen of inspirational books. You’ll be left with a renewed sense of kindness towards yourself and your journey. Brené will reassure you that it’s okay to be vulnerable, it’s actually an important part of living a wholehearted life! My three favourite books of Brené’s are The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, and Rising Strong. If you can, try to read them in that order because they sort of build upon one another. I’ve read all of them countless times! I love coming back to certain parts, spending an afternoon lost in her words. Trust me, you’ll finish the books rejuvenated and at ease with yourself 🙂
Big Magic – Elizabeth Gilbert
For all you creatives out there (and even those of you who don’t think you’re that creative), I highly recommend Big Magic! Elizabeth talks about creativity as something that we all need to practice and incorporate into our lives. And don’t worry, creativity comes in all sorts of forms! Elizabeth joyfully explores the idea that inspiration finds you, and it’s up to you to see the idea through. Otherwise it’ll go and find someone else to bring the idea to life. Elizabeth leaves you dreaming about how you can incorporate more creativity into your life, and ultimately, more happiness!
The Happiness Project – Gretchen Rubin
In this book, Gretchen takes you along her year-long, “Happiness Project” to bring more joy and happiness into her life. I tried to do my own happiness project last year, and while unfortunately I didn’t last all year, I would still love to see another one through! Gretchen sets themes for each month, and resolutions to incorporate into her daily life. She even shares how to get started on your own Happiness Project on her website. Have a look, it can be quite eye-opening and life-changing to how you approach happiness and joy in your own life!
Make It Happen – Lara Casey
Make It Happen is so neat because it feels like an interactive workbook! Lara has included questions and exercises to stop and make you think about your big goals. She really challenges you to question aspects of your life and take the leap! Lara was also recently on Jenna Kutcher’s podcast, Goaldigger, and it was so inspiring to hear her share her journey and a few of your own tips for goal setting!
Grit – Angela Duckworth
I am currently reading this book and it’s so insightful! In Grit, Angela talks about the power of passion and perseverance, and how important grit is in our lives. She shares interviews, studies, and insights on all aspects of grit. Angela also shares practical tips on how to be more gritty in your life, and encourages you not to worry if you haven’t found your passion or life-purpose. It’ll comes with time, and if you’re not there yet, have fun! Explore different avenues and passions until you find something that makes you happy! It’s easier to be gritty if you enjoy what you’re doing, and working towards a fulfilling goal in life.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up – Marie Kondo
Marie’s book is all about getting rid of items that don’t serve you or “spark joy” in your life. Marie talks about how the more clutter we have in our life, the more negative energy surrounds us. She shows you how to go room by room and declutter! I’m all about living in a clean space, it’s so relaxing. Having things strewn all over the place just stresses me out. This book inspired me to pare down my possessions and only keep the items that have a special meaning to me!
I hope these inspirational books give you a great start to your reading list for 2017! I know they have inspired me in more ways than one. And hopefully they help you along your journey as well! 🙂
What’s your favourite girl boss book? I always love new book recommendations!
